I’ve been thinking about 2012. I guess we are all thinking about it in the background of our minds because this planet seems so precarious some days and there is nothing like a good prophesy to help you focus on the fact that change is the only constant.
Mostly I think this world doesn’t end. It’s more like eternal recurrence. There is no doubt we are at a crises point. You don’t need an astrologer or a weatherman to show you how desperately we need to come to the end of the current cycle of greed, delusion and cruelty on this planet. One of the things astrology teaches us is that there are a myriad of cycles within cycles. There is the cycle of your life which begins with your own birth and ends with your death. There are also the endless cycles of the day, the year and on and on.
The astronomical cycle that supports the notion of great cycles is the precession of the equinoxes. One of the amazing things about precession is that over the course of approximately 26,000 years there are actually 4 different north stars. Polaris is just the current one. Precession is important when trying to understand what it happening on December 21, 2012. I leave you to unravel this mystery for yourself. It’s worth doing.
Symbolically what it boils down to for me is this: On the solstice day (the beginning of the New Year) at the time of sunrise (the beginning of the new day) in 2012 the Sun (the great Father of our solar system) will conjunct the Milky Way (the Great Goddess of our galaxy) at its direct center. The center of the Goddess is her womb which is also the point we call the Galactic Center. This is a very great joining of energies. A great marriage so to speak. It won’t happen again for another 26,000 years.
The Sun represents the masculine principle. It’s hot and fiery. It rises and sets. The Milky Way is the great womb of our existence in the heavenly realms.
The symbolism is powerful but the astronomy of it isn’t exact. There really isn’t one moment when this happens. It occurs over many years and no one seems to agree upon when the precise culmination date is. For those who are committed to the Mayan prophesy sunrise on the first day of the New Year 2012 is the date to watch for.
The Mayan’s did naked eye astronomy: No telescopes. They meditated and conjured prophetic images from what they could see in the heavens. Their math was mixed with mysticism. Nowadays the guys with the telescopes aren’t generally mystics (with a few notable exceptions). I myself like to lean into the mystic which is why I am an astrologer, of course.
Nobody alive on Planet Earth at the moment would argue with the notion that we are at a time of crises when our very existence hangs in the balance. What we believe can make a huge difference. Cutting through the hype around 2012 and diving into the pure symbolism could be a good thing. Masculine and feminine energies in balance is symbolic of all polarities coming to a place of peace. I’m good with that.

What do you think about this event that awaits us all?
May 8th
Mother’s Day. Check out “Moonrise: the Power of Women Leading from the Heart“. The best and possibly only hope for our planet is from the consciousness that arises from the women, the mothers.
The idea that structures this book is that there are four distinct stages of relationship and since the Sun represents our Heart’s Desire we can use the astrological Sun to get a sense of how a person works their way through these stages.

If you would like to read a good article about Face Book and the ‘new’ privacy rules try this. Privacy is a water issue (astrologically speaking) and Jupiter and Uranus in Pisces would have the inclination to disregard the privacy of individuals. But between May 27 and June 6th they both enter Aries for a while. It’s a kind of a ‘fight back’ sign. Maybe we will have something to say on an individual level about our privacy settings.
